Thompson Set for Colorado Clash; Newhouse Focused on Meridian Double-Header

JEROME, ID (July 23, 2013) Brett Thompson heads into the NAPA/Toyota “150″ at Colorado National Speedway with a lot of optimism and excitement. After scoring back-to-back top ten finishes to start the season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, the veteran driver is ready to turn his luck around at a track he knows well. The 150-lap event this Saturday is round seven of the 15-race series at a place where Thompson has historically done well.

In his last visit to the 3/8-mile paved oval back in 2011, Thompson scored a podium finish with a third place performance. “I have always liked racing at CNS,” Thompson said. “For a short track it really fits my driving style and we have typically been really strong there. It is a great track for us as we always entertain a lot of our employees and customers. This year will be another great race.”

While Thompson is in Colorado this weekend, 16- year old Hannah Newhouse who drives for the Thompson team in the CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series, will be in action at Meridian (ID) Speedway in a special two-day event featuring a 75-lap race on Friday and the NAPA Auto Parts Treasure Valley “125″ on Saturday. Newhouse is currently fourth in the series point standings after four races just 55-points out of third place. She is the current A-1 Heating and Air Conditioning Rookie-of-the-Year point leader in the RMCS scoring two top five and four top ten finishes in first four races. She has also completed 324 of 325 laps contested this season.

Newhouse has also competed full-time this season the ASA Truck Series where she is the current point leader coming off a spectacular weekend July 13 at Pocatello (ID) Speedway where she swept the event winning the Fast Time Award, winning her heat race, and dominating the main event. In her last visit to Meridian she finished second in the truck series.

“I am having a blast racing this season and I am thrilled that the Thompson Motorsports Team has given me this great opportunity to drive first class race cars,” Newhouse offered. “I really like Meridian and feel we have a great shot at a two top finishes this weekend.”

Fans can enter to win great swag at Newhouse’ fan giveaway site on Facebook. Fans can also vote for Hannah in the Dr. Pepper Be the Next 1 campaign which ends July 24. Vote here.

The Thompson Motorsports team has also prepared a special two-seat former NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race truck for the annual Sun Valley Road Rally this weekend in picturesque Sun Valley, Idaho. The event offers drivers an opportunity to hit the open road and set personal speed records.

After a wildly successful debut in 2009, the Sun Valley Road Rally will once again transform Highway 75 into a “no speed limit” zone to benefit the Blaine County Community Drug Coalition. Drivers will hurl themselves down the highway in search of their cars’ top speeds, past cheering spectators, all for a good cause. The Sun Valley Road Rally will take place on July 27, 2013 North of Ketchum, Idaho.

Former NASCAR K&N Pro Series champion Scott Lynch of Burley, ID will drive the truck giving four fans the ride of a lifetime. Lynch auctioned off two rides at the CASA golf scramble a few back and will reward two lucky fans at the Sun Valley event.

“We get five runs on the course on Saturday,” Lynch offered. “We are going to see what the truck can do on the first pass then give the winners of the auction a chance to see what it feels like to go over 175 miles per hour. It is a great event for our area and raises money for a great cause. We support CASA and protecting all children from harm and this event helps us spread the word.”
